The government’s recently announced Electric Car Grant may see some new fully electric cars receive a grant of up to £3,750.

Full details have yet to be announced about which vehicles will be eligible but the key criteria include:

• Be priced under £37,000
• Be a passenger vehicle with a battery or fuel cell to drive the vehicle’s propulsion system
• Have a range of at least 100 miles WLTP
• Hold a suitable warranty for the battery or fuel cell.
• The manufacturer holding a verified Science Based Target which measures emissions produced during vehicle / battery construction.

There are two grant levels, either £3,750 or £1,500.  Details of the criteria determining which grant applies are also yet to be confirmed.  Detailed requirements and a list of vehicles are expected to be confirmed on 11^th August, according to the SMMT.

We understand vehicles ordered from 16^th July will be able to receive the grant retrospectively.
